She was brought up in Melbourne alongside her brother Will. Later, she shifted to Sydney.
Lahey was 13 years old when she began learning to play to the saxophone and guitar.
She decided to drop out of the university’s jazz program to be part of a band called the Animaux. Lahey was taken on as a vocalist and saxophonist.
After attaining her degree in arts, Lahey began a career as a solo music artist.
She was presented with the Pyke, Australasian Performing Right Association and Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society sponsored Josh Pyke Partnership in June 2016. Besides her, there were 200 other contestants.
Her track You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me which was released in 2016, won Pitchfork‘s “Best New Track Award”. Also, it got ranked at #97 place on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2016 list.
In January 2017, Alex signed a contract with the Dead Oceans label.
She released her first studio album on October 6, 2017, and was titled I Love You Like a Brother. It was compiled of a total of 10 tracks in all which were Every Day’s the Weekend, I Love You Like a Brother, Perth Traumatic Stress Disorder, I Haven’t Been Taking Care of Myself, Backpack, Awkward Exchange, I Want U, Lotto in Reverse, Let’s Call It a Day, and There’s No Money. The album packed at #15 place on the ARIA Charts.
Alex released her 2nd studio album titled The Best of Luck Club on May 17, 2019. It went to attain #30 on the ARIA Chart that year.
She was nominated for “Breakthrough Artist – Release” at the ARIA Music Awards of 2018.
