Angel Hernandez’s obituary has been shared online, and this report will explore his cause of death.
Who is Angel Hernandez?
Angel Hernandez, a sixteen-year-old, tragically passed away on Friday, Oct. 13, following his remarkable victory in a three-mile race at the district cross-country meet. The Cinco Peso Press, the esteemed newspaper of Chisholm Trail High School, reported that Angel collapsed shortly after crossing the finish line. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his condition.
Angel Hernandez death: How did he die?
On October 13, toward the end of an incredible five-kilometer run at a district track meet in Haltom City, Tarrant County, sophomore Angel Hernandez of Chisholm Trail High School passed out. The abrupt and sad turn of events eclipsed the young athlete’s accomplishment even though he broke his personal record. As Angel collapsed, his buddies from the meet hurried to help him, but their attempts were in futile. He was sent to Medical City Alliance without delay, and died there an hour later.
Hernandez was an accomplished cross-country runner and a Texas School of Karate martial artist. This week, the studio called off sessions and requested on Facebook that everyone remember the Hernandez family in their prayers.

“He worked hard and was an amazing teammate,” Gifford wrote. “Words cannot express our feelings for him and his family. Thank you, Angel, for all your hard work and determination. You will be extremely missed.”
Brent Brevard, who coached Hernandez at Chisholm Trail High School last year before retiring, said he was the ideal student-athlete.
“He worked hard and cared about his teammates,” he told the outlet.
“But then he also acted right in school and took care of his grades.”
“He’s such a great kid, a likable kid, a good student, and it was awful news,” Brevard added.
Friends and family still do not know what caused the teen to collapse after running one of his best races.
Hernandez’s funeral was held on Friday, where his family was presented with a varsity letter jacket, KHOU reported. Later that night at the high school’s homecoming football game, a moment of silence was held in his memory.

Dear friends and family,
I, in my role as the President of AOK, wish to reach out to all of you in this time of sorrow to request your support for our Executive Board Producer, Sensei Ashley Woods. We have recently suffered the loss of Angel Hernandez, a cherished member of the Texas School of Karate in Blue Mound, Ft Worth, Texas.
Angel’s untimely passing leaves a void in our hearts. He consistently exemplified the highest levels of discipline, respect, and honor. Not only was he a leader within his karate school, but also within his high school. The AOK initially selected him as an alternate for the 2023 AOK competition team, and he later earned his place as a full member of the 2024 AOK competition team. (Which has not been announced before today)
I have had the privilege of witnessing Angel’s growth as a competitor, a young man, a dedicated student, and a true friend. He was simply the best, and his absence will be deeply felt.
In this difficult time, I kindly request that you keep Sensei Ashley and Angel’s grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Grand Master D.E.Chambers
AOK President
