Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams is opening up about her mental health struggles, taking a cue from her costar and friend Sophie Turner.
Weeks after Turner got candid about mental health, Williams is sharing her story. The actress appeared on Happy Place podcast, with Fearne Cotton, where she opened up about a new change in her thought process that has had a positive impact on her life.
“Last year, in my own personal life, I think I just went through a lot of real revelations where I was like I’m not very happy doing this and pretending everything was fine,” began the 22-year-old.

Williams went on to explain that after going through her depression and unhappiness in private, she is now looking to be more genuine with her fans. The ability to be more open and honest, helps the actress be more relaxed.
“You just drop it all, and that’s when you can really have fun,” Williams stated.
However, just because she is being more open and honest, does not mean she is perfect or has it all together. Like anyone else, Williams has her good days and her bad days.
“I still lay in bed at like eleven o’clock at night telling myself all the things I hate about myself. There’s still a journey, I think. But at least dropping the act and just being who you truly are, I think that’s definitely a first step. Not trying to be who you want me to be right now in this moment…” she continued to explain her current state of mind.
Another reason Maisie Williams feels so comfortable being open with the public regarding her mental health issues is because of her incredible support system. Knowing that she is not alone also contributes to her willingness to share her remarkable story. Learning that the more issues surrounding mental health are discussed, the more people suffering can help each other is inspiring to her.
"Talent will carry you further than your 15 minutes of fame."

The Game Of Thrones star further admits it was a scary time for her dealing with her sadness, as well the fact she is still afraid of slipping back into the darkness. One thing she fully knows is it is difficult not to feel completely defeated when sadness takes over one’s life.
She reminded those listening to focus on doing things in life that they love or are excited for, as opposed to doing what people think should be done.
“I think that’s something I want to take with me for the future, try to do more things that I’m excited for rather than what people want me to,” the actress shared taking her own advice.
