This week saw Michelle Platnum drop her new single, “Darkest Hour”, a couple of weeks ahead of the planned release date. It’s clear this awesome track wanted to be heard sooner rather than later, and we seriously can’t get enough of it. The song follows up her debut single “Energy” which was a collaboration with Jazz Purple.
Michelle Platnum, real name Michelle McKenna, rose to fame as being one-third of garage group Platnum. They gained hits with their first two singles, a feature on H “Two” O’s “What’s It Gonna Be” and their own solo release “Loveshy (Thinking About You)”; they went on to release addicting tracks that deserved more recognition and they even gained support from will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas’ producer, DJ Poet. The group went quiet after 2013’s release “Love You Tomorrow”, but started doing club tours in 2016, as a duo consisting of Michelle McKenna and Aaron Evers. Last year, they dropped the addicting “Looking For Love” in collaboration with Sweet Female Attitude (you know that name from the 90’s garage hit “Flowers”). They’re constantly touring up and down the country and they’re totally worth going to see.
Continuing on from her dance number “Energy”, Michelle Platnum impresses even more so with the new single “Darkest Hour”. This track has a raging beat with techno and electronic waves running throughout. Her vocals a fire from the start to the end, she has fully connected with the track and you can feel the emotion running through every single word. We’ve all been there when we’re feeling so low and all we really need is a hug or a bit of love or a bit of support, and that exact moment is captured within the lyrics of this song. We love how the backing track features rain-like sounds subtly linking in with the lyrics, “In my darkest hour, could you shower, me with your love“.
