When you think about the queen of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, most would agree that although Kandi Burruss has been the only one to be on every season, Nene Leakes still holds the crown. The Bravolebrity recent opened up on why she decided to return to the franchise after seemingly saying ‘bye forever.’
The end of season 11 ended with Nene ending her years long friendship with Cynthia Bailey after the model and Kandi Burruss invited Kenya Moore to her party. Although rumors have run rampant that Leakes was either A) suspended for her behavior during closetgate or B) refusing to film due to the return of Mrs. Daly — the Broadway actress is denying both claims.
Viewers won’t see Leakes until episode three due to contract negotiations and the reality star spoke to Entertainment Tonight to reveal why she decided to come back.
‘This is my baby. I feel like I birthed this baby, and I need to see it all the way through. [Though], there are times when I get frustrated with it, and I wanna give the baby up for adoption.’

As for why she started filming so late, Nene explained: ‘After talking to my family, talking to my friends, and my team, you know, they encouraged me to go pick my baby up and rock my baby. So, Housewives is my baby. And I really do wanna see it stay around for 10, 15, 20 years if we can.’
While speaking with Kevin Frazier who asked if Kenya had anything to do with her decision to delay, she said that she wouldn’t give her that much credit.
She also cemented her spot as queen.
‘These girls, to me, all seem to want to be the queen or the one that everybody thinks of when they say, ‘Housewives,’ and I don’t think that that’s possible. I think there’s one queen and there’s a lot of princesses.’
